How Child Care and Development are Related

A child’s development is far more connected to their child care environment that many parents realize.  Development in child care facilities, particularly during their younger years, can have a large impact on children.  There are many stages that a child may go through, and the level of a child s development in a child care facility can depend on that facility s approach to learning.  Care in a child s development should always be taken.

Types of Development Occurring in Child Care Facilities

There are many types of development that occur in child care facilities and outside of them.  One example of this is social development.  Social development occurs as a child ages, one very important factor in social development is allowing a child to be around other children.  This is an area that child care facilities definitely excel in.  They allow children to be exposed to many different children that they may not otherwise be exposed to if they grew up mainly by themselves or only around siblings.

Not only can children develop socially in child care facilities because they are around other children that are not from their family, but also because they’re exposed to children that may be very different from themselves.  Children can be exposed to other kids from completely different social, ethnic, economic, and cultural backgrounds.  This is not necessarily something they would be able to do in most other settings.

Children may also develop language skills in child care facilities.  This is due to the fact that the toddlers especially can learn a lot by speaking or babbling with other toddlers.  Also, many child care facilities will involve things like singing and rhyming in with their lessons.  This type of learning can assist children in developing language skills.

Activities like free-play can allow toddlers and young children to develop motor skills and physical coordination.  Smaller motor development skills are also encouraged through the use of activities like puzzles and painting.  If children are fed properly at child care facilities, as many encourage now, that will also help with their physical well-being.

Child care facilities and similar situations can help children develop many skills and the ability to learn better.  Children may develop their imagination through pretend play with other kids, and they become more active learners as they’re able to use certain materials and toys that may not be available in their home, or as they are forced to use them differently since they may not have the one-on-one attention of a parent.  This type of active learning can also help children develop greater attention spans, as they’re forced to entertain themselves at times.
